Known world-wide for his role as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket and now starring in the Outdoor Channel’s GunnyTime, R. Lee Ermey—aka “The Gunny”—recently hosted the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation’s (GSSF) Annual Shoot and Gunny Challenge held at the Griffin Gun Club in Georgia on September 26 and 27, where Glock Matchmeisters competed head-to-head against each other in a competition named for the spokesman for Glock. Also hosting and shooting in the Gunny Challenge was fellow Marine and Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer. Before the match, The Gunny has much to say about this year’s match and his opponent.

The MatchMeisters, The Gunny and Dakota Meyer competed with the Glock 40 Gen4 in MOS Configuration and the 9mm Glock 43. The Glock 40 Gen4 MOS packs the exceptionally powerful 10mm Auto cartridge and has a longer sight radius, while the 9mm Glock 43 is designed for concealed carry.

Glock MatchMeister Bryan Dover won top honors in several divisions of the Annual Shoot, while Tony Boone mastered the Glock 40 and Glock 43, winning the Gunny Challenge. Jim Montgomery, Dennis Kirchoff and Justin Shurley can in second, third and fourth places, respectively. Then the range was turned over to the head-to-head shootout between The Gunny and Dakota, who swapped sides, hits and quips until Dakota was declared the winner.

The weekend event was a huge success with the number of registered shooters (over 1,400) breaking all records and over $21,000 in money, guns and Glock merchandise being awarded to winners and participants by random drawings. The next GSSF Annual Shoot and Gunny Challenge will be held at the Griffin Gun Club on September 23-25, 2016.
