In the upcoming November 2014 issue of GUNS & WEAPONS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT, author Richard Johnson has rounded up some of the best new patrol carbines available to law enforcement officers.
Johnson writes, “With increased threats from terrorists and drug gangs, a rifle can give officers an increased measure of safety. Rifles offer a high degree of precision, a long operating distance and the ability to defeat body armor—things the typical sidearm and shotgun are not able to do. Here are some of the better offerings currently available for law enforcement officers.
“The Mid Evo Ultra Lite rifle from Adams Arms features forged upper and lower receivers; a Samson modular, free-floating handguard; a black, 14.5-inch, Melonite-finished barrel; and a short-stroke piston operating system. Chambered for the 5.56mm NATO, the barrel has a 1-in-7-inch twist rate and a pinned VDI Jet Comp brake. The rifle’s MSRP is $1,801.
“Designed to adapt to all officers, the Beretta ARX100 has completely ambidextrous controls and case ejection can be switched from right to left sides with the press of a button. This 5.56mm NATO rifle also features an adjustable, folding stock, Picatinny accessory rails and a cold-hammer-forged barrel. Its MSRP is $1,950.
“The Adaptive Combat Rifle, or ACR, from Bushmaster is a modern interpretation of what a fighting rifle needs. It has ambidextrous controls, an adjustable stock and a full-length rail for adding a fast-targeting optic. The gun ships with Magpul backup sights. Its MSRP is $2,766.48.
“Chambered in 5.56mm NATO, the Colt LE6940 carbine comes equipped with folding sights, a quad-rail forend and mil-spec parts. The free-floating barrel is available in a variety of lengths and has a 1-in-7-inch twist rate. Its MSRP is $1,546.”
