Technoframes — an Italy-based manufacturer of gun cases, ammunition boxes & replica ammunition for firearm, shooting and hunting enthusiasts and collectors — has released a replica of the famous FLAK 88mm cartridge.
As the press release notes, the FLAK, or Flieger Abwehr Kanonen, is without a doubt the most famous piece of artillery of World War II, and possibly of the 20th century. It’s not easy to stand in front of this venerable ammunition, so the company decided to add the 88mm to their range of Replica cartridges. When manufacturing these replicas, the company focused on the making of two rounds, the 8.8 cm Flak 36 HE (with High-Explosive markings) and the 8.8 cm KwK 36 AP (with Armour Piercing markings) used on the PzKw VI Ausf. E tank (also known as TIGER I).
According to Technoframes, the “Eighty-eight” first entered service in 1933 and first saw combat in Spain during the Civil War in 1936, where it proved itself to be not only an excellent anti-aircraft gun but also the ideal tank killer due to its high muzzle velocity and efficient heavy projectile.
These Replica’s are totally machined and carved out from a solid piece of aluminum resulting in an extremely like-the-original weight balanced ammunition for a final weight of 9.5 kg (21 pounds). In addition, the cartridge case is built in three pieces including the bi-metallic driving bands (FES), double 360-degree crimps, and fuze+shell are also made in three pieces. Technoframes has also reproduced the original markings on both the shell and the cartridge case.
Simply put, with the 88mm Replica’s from Technoframes you hold history in your hands!
