In the upcoming November/December 2014 issue of TACTICAL WEAPONS, authors Robert A. Sadowski and David Bahde round up some of the best sound suppressors available on the market today.
Bahde writes, “Sound suppressors are finally garnering the attention they deserve. Here are some of the best suppressors that have recently hit the market.
“Advanced Armament’s SR-5 Fast-Attach 5.56mm suppressor uses a variant of the AAC 90-Tooth Ratchet Taper mounting system from the battle tested MG-SD and Titan-QD silencers, enabling secure attachment or removal in seconds. The rigid mounting interface minimizes point of impact shift, allowing for the best possible accuracy. The 100 percent circumferentially welded Inconel 718 baffle core features highly efficient blast baffle design that employs geometry that shears the maximum amount of gas while providing resistance to abrasion and erosion caused by high-velocity particulate impingement.
“Built similarly to the SR-5, the 7.62mm-rated SR-7 offers the same features for those needing a .30-caliber suppressor. While designed for use with 7.62mm NATO ammunition, it works just as well with 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Creedmoor, 300 AAC Blackout, and 5.56 NATO rounds, among others, making it incredibly versatile.
Another new compact and lightweight 5.56mm suppressor is the 556- SD, which utilizes AAC’s proven 51T Ratchet Mount to solidly attach to the muzzle, keeping point-of-impact shifts to a bare minimum. AAC has also improved and reintroduced its 762-SD with enhanced durability and performance. It now uses an all-Inconel baffle stack for greater service life.”
