A recently-released report by Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says that over 110,000 concealed carry permits were either issued or renewed in the Buckeye State in 2014.
According to the Sidney Daily News, county sheriffs in Ohio reported the following numbers to the Attorney General’s Office: 58,066 new licenses issued, 52,146 licenses renewed, 110,212 total licenses issued or renewed in 2014. That number is down from 140,342 in 2013.
“The large number of license renewals reflects the significant number of licenses that were issued five years ago and were up for renewal last year,” DeWine said. “We thank Ohio’s county sheriffs for their continued cooperation in providing this information about the use of Ohio’s concealed carry law.”
As the Daily News reports, the Ohio Attorney General’s office is required by law to release an annual report about the number of licenses issued or renewed. County sheriffs report quarterly concealed handgun license statistics to the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission, which operates within the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
