Michigan’s Oakland Community College is holding a “Self Defense for Women” workshop at the college’s Orchard Ridge Campus in Farmington Hills.
The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 3 in room 303 of the J Building.
Taught by sixth-degree black belt and self-defense expert Jaye Spiro, the workshop is “designed to increase knowledge, self-confidence, common sense, protection strategies for preventing attack and effective fight and escape techniques to use in case of assault,” according to hometownlife.com.
“Self Defense for Women” is open to women ages 13 and older. The workshop fee is $40 and pre-registration is required. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a lunch and water.
Self Defense for Women is sponsored by the Womencenter, a facility that provides educational and supportive resources for area women.
