Missouri Gun Law Change Could Allow Firearms in Schools

A major change in Missouri gun laws could allow firearms in schools across the state.

The new law would allow teachers and administrators who are designated as a “school protection officer” to carry concealed weapons inside of schools.

Democrat Governor Jay Nixon vetoed the law, but the Republican-led state legislature has overridden that veto. The effort is part of a two-year plan by many Missouri lawmakers to expand gun rights in the state.

The department of public safety will create the training guidelines for teachers and administrators to become school protection officers.

Individual schools will have the final say as to whether or not to allow firearms to be carried inside the school.

This makes Missouri the 10th state to allow armed school employees since the tragic events at Sandy Hook.
