Beginning in May 2017, both male and female Marines will be required to wear the male cap. In a move approved by Marine Corps Commandant Gen. James Amos, the Marines’ Uniform Board has recommended the male service and dress frame cap as the “universal cap” for all Marines, according to a memo.
A majority percentage of Marines polled said they preferred the male cap over the small cap known as the Dan Daly cap. The Marines also say having one universal cap will save money in the long run.
Starting in April 2014, all female recruits will be issued the male cap, but female marines won’t be required to own them until May 2017.
