Federal Premium just announced its all-new Federal Custom Shop for summer 2019 and we’re excited.
Why are we excited? The new Custom Shop gives shooters a crack at ammunition not listed Federal’s catalog. Shooters now have the opportunity to order ammunition built specifically to their preferences.
The Federal Custom Shop Process
The new shop allows shooters to order direct from several different shotshell and centerfire rifle offerings, with a wide selection of the best bullets from Federal, Nosler, Sierra, Berger, Swift and more. In addition, custom TSS Shotshells for turkey, waterfowl and upland game are available. Basically, if it’s not in Federal’s catalog, yet they have the components and capability to custom build it, they may build it for you.
Federal’s team of expert engineers loads each Custom Shop round to order in its state-of-the-art reloading workshop. These veteran craftsmen combine the best components with extra quality checks at every stage for the most consistent velocity, accuracy and overall performance. Loads are then hand-checked for final inspection and cleaned before being custom-packed in durable, personalized packaging.
What Can You Build?
How much creative freedom will customers have with their ammo? Representatives from Federal told Ballistic that it’s unlikely customers will be able enter any specs they want or build wildcats. We kind of figured. Plus, that’s not what this is about.
From what we understand, it will be more like choosing from options Federal has available when loading a cartridge, under SAAMI specs and other safety guidelines. Federal representatives gave us the following example: “If you want a 30-06 round using a different bullet or bullet weight option not listed for 30-06 in our catalog, yet we have that bullet (as listed in the custom shop) that you want instead, for that caliber, we can then custom load it for you.”
And that’s everything we know for now. It’s a pretty cool new option for shooters and Federal’s quality speaks for itself.
Again, the Federal Custom Shop is slated to open in summer 2019. It is a virtual shop only. Full details on what all will be initially available at launch are not yet finalized.
