In Columbia, South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley announced she will sign into law a bill allowing people with concealed weapon permits to carry their firearms into South Carolina businesses that serve alcohol.
The Senate passed the bill last month that allows permit holders to keep their weapon with them when they go out to dinner or enter a bar but bans them from drinking alcohol. The measure specifies that business owners can ban concealed weapons on their property by posting signs against it.
Haley announced on her Facebook page when the signing ceremony will take place.
Senate Judiciary Chairman Larry Martin believes most bars will put up signs banning weapons, so the bill wouldn’t really let guns in bars. He says they’ll do that for liability purposes and because people who can’t legally drink would just take up space.
