The owner of a Houston gun store federally licensed to sell machine guns shot and killed a burglar trying to break into his business Tuesday morning.
According to Click2Houston.com, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. at Class 3 Weapons located in the 6200 block of North Shepherd Drive. The owner, 52-year-old John Kleiber, was sleeping at his store — it had been burglarized several times before — when he was awoken by multiple people attempting to break in.
At that point, Kleiber grabbed his gun and opened fire, hitting one 23-year-old suspect in the head. The wounded man was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. KHOU is reporting that he died from his injuries.
Two other suspects immediately fled the scene and are still at large.
As the Houston Chronicles notes, Class 3 Weapons is approved by the federal government to sell National Firearms Act weapons, including machine guns, short barreled rifles, shotguns, and silencers.
No charges have been filed against Kleiber in connection with the shooting thus far.
