College scholarships will soon be awarded to the children of four Camp Pendleton Marines killed in the Explosive Ordnance Disposal accident last November. According to U-T San Diego, seven children, all under the age of 10, will each receive $30,000 from the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.
As U-T San Diego reports, this is the start of a new scholarship to honor all Marines who work in Explosive Ordnance Disposal. It is dubbed the EOD Marine Memorial Scholarship.
The children of Sgt. Miguel Ortiz, Staff Sgts. Mathew Marsh and Eric Summers and Gunnery Sgt. Gregory Mullins will receive $7,500 per year over a four-year period to help pay for college tuition.
The scholarship were presented to the families at a dinner in San Diego last month.
“Marines are sacrificing every day and some make the ultimate sacrifice—we want to take care of their families,” said Jeanette Casselano, the foundation’s director of communication.
