Several organizations in Gibson County, Indiana joined forces to host a self-defense seminar on Tuesday night.
According to TristateHomepage.com, the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office, South Gibson School Corporation, and a group of concerned parents invited Officer Ryan Ziliak to host the seminar.
Ziliak is an agent with the U.S. Border Patrol in South Dakota. For the past several years, he has been teaching women — on his own time and free of charge — how to protect themselves from a potential attack.
As TristateHomepage.com reports, Ziliak was inspired to begin teaching self-defense classes after spending years working cases involving the kidnapping and murders of women.
“I’ve seen a lot, investigated a lot, and just thought this is the time to really bring about the awareness of self defense.”
Many students, such as Taylor and Alyssa Kiesel, found Ziliak’s class very informative.
“Just kind of like to educate us to know what our options are to do. You don’t think that it’s going to happen to you, but it could. It’s just good to have that information on hand,” said Alyssa.
