Everytown for Gun Safety, the anti-gun organization founded by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, released a new ad which inadvertently proves why women should be armed before facing a violent attacker. Watch the video below.
According to TownHall.com, the 30-second ad depicts an unarmed woman who is at home with her child when her violent ex-husband — who has a restraining order against him — shows up and begins banging on the front door, demanding to be let in. The woman calls 911, but the man breaks down the door and takes the child before drawing his gun on the woman, shooting her. The video ends with a message which reads, “Stop gun violence against women.”
The message of the video is to stop domestic abusers from obtaining firearms. However, as Katie Pavlich of TownHall.com points out, what happens when a domestic abuser circumvents existing laws and gets a gun illegally, which is often the case with criminals? When a violent criminal disobeys the law, an unarmed woman is left defenseless. In situations like these, a restraining order and hoping the police will arrive in time is not going to protect you and your family. Rather, the woman in the ad could have saved her life by going on the offensive and using a legal firearm.
