New video released from the investigation of the “Rust” shooting that took the life of Halyna Hutchins shows Alec Baldwin held his finger on the trigger prior to the shooting. Journalist Emily Miller, writer of the best-selling “Emily Gets Her Gun: Gut Obama Wants to Take Yours,” broke down the video and broke the story Monday.
Video Shows Alec Baldwin Finger on Trigger
Back in December, Baldwin gave an interview to ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, claiming he never pulled the trigger. An emotional Baldwin appealed to sensitivity, describing the late Hutchins and expounding on the great loss. But he never claimed any responsibility for taking her life. Instead, he boldly said “Well, the trigger wasn’t pulled – I didn’t pull the trigger.”
Stephanopoulos even followed up, shockingly, asking directly to Baldwin once more: “So you never pulled the trigger?”
“No, no, no, no,” Baldwin answered. “I would never point a gun at anyone and pull a trigger at them.”
But Miller went through all the evidence, including documents, images and video footage, released by the Santa Fe Sheriff’s office recently. And Miller found evidence contradicting Baldwin’s claim.
“Baldwin is pointing the gun directly at the camera where cinematographer Hutchins was standing” reported Miller. “He did this moments before he shot her and director Joel Souza.”
Here’s the real hot take here. All of us in the gun community, throughout the entirety of this awful situation, have known a couple of facts to be true. First, Baldwin and the crew of “Rust” failed to follow a litany of firearm safety rules. In fact, the state’s investigation said just that recently, implicating armorers and crew. As awful as that is for the 2A community to swallow, Baldwin continues to back it up with a defiant refusal to take any responsibility for his own actions. Now video evidence clearly shows his finger on the trigger.
“I don’t know if Baldwin is lying about pulling the trigger and didn’t know there was evidence proving it,” Miller wrote. “Or he just didn’t realize he did it and then broke two other gun safety rules–making sure the gun is unloaded and keeping it pointed in a safe direction.
“Either way, he doesn’t have the slightest remorse or assumes any blame for killing Hutchins. And his lies are catching up to him.” Miller concluded.
